Aurora launches First Commercial self-driving truck in Texas
02 мая 2025

Aurora Innovation company performed the first commercial flight of a fully autonomous driverless truck on the route between Dallas and Houston on Interstate 45 on Aprol 27. Unlike in previous tests, there was no safety driver in the cockpit, and Aurora CEO Chris Urmson was in the back seat during the ride.
The company said that by the morning of May 1, its unmanned trucks had traveled more than 1,200 miles without human intervention.
The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) has expressed concern about the safety of unmanned trucks, especially in connection with the phenomenon of "phantom braking," when an autonomous vehicle suddenly stops for no apparent reason. Todd Spencer, President of OOIDA, emphasized that voluntary safety reports are insufficient and mandatory standards are needed before mass adoption of such technologies on public roads.
