Geographically, these zones are located in Butler County, south of the interchange with SR 63 in the Monroe area.

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) reports that starting July 7 both north and south rest areas will be closed for approximately a year. The reason is a large–scale reconstruction.

As part of the project, existing buildings will be dismantled and new modern complexes will be built in their place. The renovated recreation areas are expected to open to visitors in the summer of 2026. After the renovation, travelers will be able to use more spacious toilets, an information center with retail outlets and tourist information, as well as covered picnic areas.

ODOT recommends that drivers traveling south use the rest areas in Florence, Kentucky, on I-71. For those heading north, the nearest alternative options are in Hancock County, south of Findlay.

It is important to note that recreation areas in Auglaize County will also close in July. These works are being carried out as part of a large-scale ODOT program to modernize 36 recreation areas throughout the state.
