The congressman suggests including the results of drug hair tests in the FMCSA database
On July 10, Congressman Eric A. Crawford introduced a bill that would allow positive drug hair test results to be entered into the Federal Highway Transportation Safety Administration's (FMCSA) online drug and alcohol database.
Currently, current regulations require analysis of urine or oral fluid, and only their results can be included in this database.
The hair test provides a longer drug detection period of up to 90 days, compared with 2-3 days for urine analysis, which, according to proponents, helps identify long–term patterns of use.
The Trucking Alliance coalition advocates the introduction of such testing, but the Association of Independent Driver-Owners of Vehicles (OOIDA) has concerns about accuracy and possible racial inconsistencies. The bill has been submitted to the House Committee on Transport and Infrastructure.
