In June 2025, about 3,000 truck driver jobs were lost in the United States, and more than 4,000 for the last two months. 

Despite the employment growth in March, weak demand continues to lower spot rates and threaten further cuts.

President Trump suspended the introduction of tariffs for 90 days, extending the deadline until August 1. 

Tariffs, including 25% on imports from Japan and up to 40% from Laos and Myanmar, could increase pressure on the industry.

Preliminary data show a 39% decrease in orders for trucks of class 5-8 in June. 

Carriers are reducing investments in equipment, which may lead to additional layoffs of drivers.
